Who We Are
DHIVA is the name for Dietitians working in HIV/AIDS. We’re a group of the British Dietetics Assocation.
We provide education for our members by holding 2 study days each year and have just launched a new Training Day for all dietitians and nutritionists new to working with patients living with HIV infection.
We also support professional development for our members by providing bursaries to attend international conferences and other training opportunities.
We also provide an excellent network for liaising with other health professionals working in this area.
If you would like any information about our group, you can leave a comment at the end of this post.
Al is Principal HIV Dietitian at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital in London, where he has worked and studied since 1995. Along with Dr Barry Peters he developed the UK’s first multidisciplinary HIV metabolic service, ensuring patients are at the centre of the care pathway. Al has volunteered with The Food Chain for almost 20 years, and as Chair of the Board in 2000-2003 implemented a strategic review delivering a research programme to embed evidence-based guidelines within the charity’s functions – work that was recognised by awards from The Caroline Walker Trust and The Guardian. As Winston Churchill Fellow of 2007 he worked in HIV nutrition in university, clinical and community settings in Botswana, Lesotho and South Africa, and continues to volunteer with the Children’s HIV Association in Southern Africa.
